Nodule
A primary morphology
Definition:
Palpation: raised and palpable. It has a deeper origin than a papule or plaque, so in addition to be raised, it also has a depth that can be appreciated
Size: larger than 2 cm
General explanation for a nodule:
typically a nodule results from disease involving the dermis and occasionally the subcutaneous tissue
Examples:
Lipoma = benign tumor of fat cells
Neurofibromas = a benign nerve sheath tumour found in the peripheral nervous system and often presenting as brown papules or nodules on the skin. Can be idiopathic or associated with a diagnosis of neurofibromatosis
Lymphoma cutis = lymphoma present in the skin
