Vesicle
A primary morphology
Definition:
Palpable: Yes. Fluid filled.
Description: The fluid is usually clear and colorless or pale yellow.
Size: Smaller than 1cm
Essentially a tiny blister.
General explanation for a vesicle:
Fluid (blood or lymphatic fluid) accumulates in the epidermis or dermis separating the layers of skin from one another
Examples:
Herpes simplex = clear vesicles caused by infection of the skin with the herpes virus
Herpes zoster = caused by the varicella-zoster virus reactivating, more commonly known as shingles. Dermatomal (dermatomes are an area of the skin supplied by nerves from a single spinal root) in distribution.
Dyshidrotic eczema = a form of eczema found on the palms and soles that forms vesicles.
